A review of Stumptown Cafe in New York City. What’s there’s to say but that it was all good, very good actually. And with it’s location in the Ace Hotel you get a choice of wonderful spaces. Either the lobby to sit, relax and converse while enjoying coffee excellence or the standing bar overlooking 28th and doing the same. So I’ll do the best I can to tone it down in this cafe review but you can probably already guess how damn good this place actually is. .. Anyway here’s what we found…
We entered through the Ace Hotel Lobby and we’re really liking the space. Muted lighting, leather, wood and earth tones. A nice area with leather chairs and couches also some wonderful long/narrow tables you would expect to see in a library setting with subdued lighting so you could set up your laptop and connect to the Internet if you prefer. One kind lady allowed me the unusual request of photographing her Fench Press Coffee. Wherever you are..thanks again.
And someone else had already finished their Stumptown Espresso. … and so you know, these weren’t photoshopped (just some minor sharpening) , just shot these at a 1600 speed and let the fabulous lighting do the rest.
Another great aspect about this is that there is also a bar off the lobby so you could enjoy a fine espresso while your companion had a scotch & water. They keep everyone happy here.
Into Stumptown where the baristas were straight out busy and it was interesting to watch how they crafted the coffees while waiting in the short, fast moving line. … Kept it to basics and ordered a double espresso. They provide this with a glass of water. … While waiting they crafted some wonderful lattes and hot chocolates. The NY Times Coffee Map recommended their baked goods which appeared excellent. However opted to keep it to the espresso and purchase the baked goods later at a bakery of my choice.
Then of course there was the espresso. This was enjoyed at a standing bar overlooking 28th Street. …. Absolutely fantastic with the complexity rising, peaking and then lingering as it slowly faded, but never fully left. What else can you say. … A bit of heaven for under $3. Fantastic.
So in summary, Stumptown totally exceeded our maximum 5 cup rating for quality, service, ambiance and value. Simply outstanding. You must visit them. +
