I read a story yesterday of a guy down in Birmingham, Alabama who started his own Coffee Micro-Roasting Company. The guy’s name is Woody Wiginton and his story is a good read. This really is an area that many of us would like to get into and with the Internet and low cost express shipments your market can be as wide as you want it to be. The Hesselt Center for Environmental Sciences has published a study that reports that coffee, alcohol, sex and smog are triggers for heart attacks. The specific breakdown is as follows: Coffee & Alcohol Combined = 5% Sex = 2.2% Heavy Meal = 2.7% Smog = 7.4% So if we abstain from the sex, heavy meals, coffee & alcohol and live in the country we’ll still have approximately 83% left that’s not covered by the above.  And of course these are the “triggers” which I think means the last straw from years of abuse … probably too much of the [... click to continue reading]

Quick Chek recently published some data related to coffee drinking preferences of people living in the Metro NJ/NYC Areas… Only a several million people so it’s interesting as to what they prefer. And some of the most interesting bits don’t have anything to do with the NJ & NYC Area’s coffee trends.   Charity, giving money, your time and/or your love to someone for no apparent reason other than to help them out & brighten their day. Maybe if you feel obligated this really isn’t charity but duty & guilt working on you. Or if it makes you feel better about yourself.. then who cares, now you’ve made two people happy. And yeah you got the bum, homeless guy or whatever on the street conundrum of giving him change that helps him out or keeps him in booze & on the street. I had the opportunity to see firsthand this homemade coffee roaster created from components that were never meant to be combined. It could be considered a thermo-mechanical innovation that thumbs it’s nose at the conventional coffee roaster industry, an extremely dangerous fire hazard with deadly potential for destruction, a functional yet  beautiful work of art that, like a fiery car wreak, you cannot turn away from or just a homemade machine that roasts the beans & “gets er done” in the totally unpretentious fashion of the redneck..
